IMO, if the gk104 is so much better than AMD's solution, they're gonna keep the gk100 and release it as the 780GTX about 8 or 9 months from now. Meanwhile, AMD will launch their 7990 dual chip card, then nVidia will launch the 690GTX(dual chip) even if only as a limited release like they did with the 590gtx and /or a 685GTX(supped up gk104) to stay ahead as the leader. Then some time in 2013 they'll release the maxwell chip and I'll have to consider spending more money at that point. :P I guess only time will tell.

Let me break it down for you guys. No matter how cool either Nvidia or AMD's shit is, they will continue to go back and forth ad infinitum holding first place.

New tech is definitely cool though. Be careful of benchmarks though, they're horribly misleading. I saw the benches for the 6xx series that got released last week, I'm assuming that's what's linked on the first page, it was somewhat underwhelming IMO, regardless of whether it's their midrange chip or not. Same old back and forth. Still, it's a step forward.

So 12fps over the 7970 and almost 18fps over the 580GTX in BF3 @ 1920x1080 with 8xMSAA, as a single card single chip solution, is underwhelming? Well then, I'm really gonna be underwhelmed  with 2 of them playing BF3 @ 2560x1600 on ultra high.

Again, everything being about the almighty dollar......they are going to give you just enough to be better than the competition at the time to spread out the technology over a greater period of time....did someone say profits?? lol

I am sure they have shit that would blow away everything right now but where is the profit in that? CPU's that would make the current chips look like celerons. Its all a game.

The funny thing about all of this is that it's a moot point if the card is generating anything over 60fps if you're using a 60hz monitor. If you're running a 7970 at 60fps on ultra settings, and you've spent a fuck ton of money getting the 680 to get 18fps more, then you're wasting your money because your monitor won't display those frames.

If you have a 120hz monitor though, it's a different story. If it gets you from 90fps to 120fps, then you're golden, and it would be worth it. You really have to weigh these options though, otherwise it's a boost for games that will stress your system that haven't even come out yet. And this shit moves SO fast, it's tough on our pocketbooks.

I just mean underwhelming because it's more of the same. I'd like to see a next iteration of tech be like a 50fps boost. Something that will make me salivate at the thought of changing out both of my crossfired cards that aren't that old.
